FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
We proudly announce The Trunk Show : Elephant Art Fashion Show & Auction.
This very special charity event will take place on October 17th 2008 at HOME/Guesthouse in New York City. The Trunk Show is a runway show featuring garments made from eco-friendly fabric and locally produced silk that has been painted on by elephants. Yes, painting elephants…and very talented ones at that. The AEACP team just finished working with the elephant artists at the Ayutthaya Royal Elephant Kraal in Thailand and the Kandang Gajah Camp at Borobudur Temple in Indonesia. The finished fabric paintings are breathtakingly beautiful thanks to the astounding skill of the elephants, their mahouts, and our dedicated creative team. We welcome you to share in this unique gathering and rewarding cause.
In addition to the fabric pieces, we are also very excited to announce that a one-of-a-kind hand-crafted Stratocaster-style guitar has been donated for the event by our meticulous and soulful friends at DeTemple Guitars. Two star elephants, Kam Lai Tong and Ging Gaow painted on this priceless guitar which is to be auctioned off at the fashion show along with the completed garments.
The 25 painted fabrics have now been handed over to cutting edge fashion designers from around the world. Each designer will be creating a unique garment from the finished fabrics. The garments will be original works of art that can never be repeated. This collection will be presented on professional models during the runway show.
After the runway show, AEACP founder and internationally renowned artist, Alex Melamid, will auction off the garments, the guitar, and other donated items. Proceeds will go to fund the building of an elephant sanctuary in Thailand as well as toward an elephant rescue and abandoned well closure program in Sumatra, Indonesia.
The Trunk Show is intended to bring awareness to the plight of the Asian Elephant as well as to raise much-needed funds for elephant conservation. Asian Elephants are endangered and their numbers are dwindling rapidly. It is therefore up to us to find positive, healthy ways in which people and elephants can coexist on this planet.
The Trunk Show is being organized by the Asian Elephant Art & Conservation Project. The AEACP is a 501(c)3 charity organization dedicated to saving the diminishing number of Asian Elephants left on our planet through our work with domesticated elephants. The AEACP promotes and sells the work of elephant artists as a way to improve the welfare of domesticated and wild elephants. This is done most directly by facilitating appropriate standards of training, care, food, and habitat. Money raised by the AEACP is also used to fund the further education of mahouts in the humane treatment of elephants. We do not tolerate any abuse of the elephants either while painting or in everyday interaction. It is our goal to give as many elephants as we can, a happy, healthy, enriched existence.
We hope that you can join us and be a part of this monumental event. If you are interested in being a part of The Trunk Show, in covering the event, or in purchasing one of the items up for auction, please contact us. For more information on the project, please go to www.elephantart.com.
