Joel Brooks Beth Maitland

Joel Brooks

Joel Brooks got his training in the New York theatre. He studied at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts and with Uta Hagen and went on to work at Playwrites Horizons, New York Shakespeare Festival, and The Eugene O’Neill Theatre Festival among many other venues. In Los Angeles, Mr. Brooks has worked extensively in Television and Film. Credits include film roles in “Stir Crazy”, “Protocol”, “Skin Deep”, “Indecent Proposal” and many others. Series regular roles include “My Sister Sam”, “Teachers Only”, Private Benjamin”, “Hail To The Chief”, “Good Grief” and recurring roles on “Facts Of Life”, “Six Feet Under”, “Phil Of the Future” and many others. His Guest Star appearances run the gamut from “Three’s Company” to “LA Law” to “Everybody Loves Raymond”, “The Closer”, “Cane” and “State Of Mind”. For the past 10 years he has been teaching and audition class and coaching actors, both on-set and privately.

Beth Maitland

With an Emmy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her long standing portrayal of Traci Abbott on CBS TV’s “The Young and the Restless”, Beth Maitland is excited to have just completed performing in an original musical honoring World War II vets, called “Wartime Romance.” She returned to the boards in a recent production and tour of “Anything Goes” as Reno Sweeney, and is thrilled to be “working out as a singer again.”

She is no stranger to the stage, from which her early experience was earned in over 80 productions and revues ranging from Shakespeare to Rodgers and Hammerstein. Roles like Helena in “A Midsummer Nights’ Dream,” Penny in “You Can’t Take It With You,” Mrs. Antrobus in “Skin of our Teeth,” and Pacquette in “Candide” are particular favorites. Two years with a Lyric Opera Theater fleshed out her music comedy experience and a sign language production at Deaf West Theater of “’Night, Mother” won her a role with Richard Dreyfus in the feature film, “Mr. Holland’s Opus.”
Other highlights of her career were working with Carol Burnett and Hal Holbrook in an ABC special production of “Plaza Suite,” an opera- singing episode of “Love American Style” with Tony Dow, and a daring appearance on “Circus of the Stars” atop giant Percheron circus horses doing balletic and acrobatic tricks and resin-back riding.

An avid animal lover, Beth volunteers for a number of animal placement and rescue organizations. She lives outside of Los Angeles with her own menagerie ... horses, goats, bunnies, chickens and dogs.

She attributes her happiness and success to the love given her by her family and friends, and especially her husband and twelve year old daughter.

Spare time is spent fundraising for the local hospital and several animal charities, public speaking on a range of personal creativity and women’s topics, designing costumes, accessories and jewelry for shops and personal clients, and directing experimental short film projects. She has recently signed on as a board member and performer for Santa Clarita Playhouse, a professional theater company where she performed in their version of “A Christmas Carol” with her daughter, Emelia. And coming in the Spring, 2008, with her teaching partner, Joel Brooks, Beth looks forward to introducing their ten-part audition instruction series of DVDs, available soon at AuditionsLA.com.
